Both sides of my family come from a long line of farmers. My father -Charles Bunn – and his family were farmers from Newsoms, VA. My mother – Nancy Epps Bunn – and her family were farmers from Wakefield, VA.
My wife Jenny and I live on part of the family farm – Turtle Creek Farm – where we raise row crops and cattle. And, oh yes, my wife’s parents and grandparents were also farmers.
Being able to farm is a reward in itself. There’s a great feeling of accomplishment when you see the first seedling plants start to sprout from the earth, or a newborn calf, a sow and her baby pigs, or watch a foal nurse for the first time. Along with making things grow, you also have to be able to market them as well. That’s when my mother and father came up with the idea of Newsoms Peanut Shop in the year 1980!
It all started in my mom’s kitchen with her cooking her famous home-cooked and country packed peanuts. That first summer when we would load our trucks with fresh sweet corn, watermelons, cantaloupes, and tomatoes, my mother would bring along her mouth-watering peanuts. And many years later, we are still satisfying people all over the U.S. and abroad.
Our family still does all the work. I have taken over the day to day duties and I am in charge of the cooking, processing, and packaging. My Mother and Father are still around to help as needed. My wife is the C.P.A… which means she is the boss.
As always we guarantee you will get the freshest, cleanest, best-tasting peanuts available. We don’t cook our peanuts and wait for an order, we receive your order and then we cook, which means your order is as fresh as it gets. That’s my guarantee to you.
My family and I are passionate about our fresh home-cooked peanut products – home-cooked peanuts, redskins, peanut brittle, cashew brittle, sugar-coated peanuts and much more. If you are doing a fundraiser, looking to stock your store shelves or just want some great peanuts, give us a call! You’ll be glad you did!
